As I sit here on the upside of 40 years, I continue to imagine the fun we'll have when we're finally grandparents!! I think of taking them places, showing them new things, giving them the love they need and deserve and SPOILING them!
What's bewildering to us is the fact that we've both got parents who just don't love their grandkids....it's a fact. It's not that they're too busy....they aren't invalid...they sit alone with each other, 7 miles from here, retired and will NOT see their grandkids. No the relationship with us isn't strained and they aren't meth addicts. They're just selfish, manipulative, ignorant people.
I've seen, in these past 18 years, that you don't just become this wonderful, kind old granny when your kids have kids. You stay the same selfish person that you were before your kids started having kids and you STAY that same ignorant person during their upbringing.
Now before you bash me (Good Grandparents) for putting anything bad out there about your profession, please read the posts! These people aren't you! They are emotionless Vulcans who want nothing to do with grandparenting UNLESS there's an upside for them i.e. being seen at family functions with their 'darling grandchildren', going to amusement parks, going to kid friendly places like kids movies etc.
So.....what do we do with them? We certainly don't want to rock the boat because Great Grandma is in an iron lung....or on a feeding tube....or lost her arms, legs and head in an accident....so we persevere. We maintain the status quo and let our kids get emotionally abused by their grandparents at holidays and birthdays. We watch them tempt our kids with "maybe you could spend the night sometime" only to dash their dreams and cancel before they leave your house.
I'm here to tell the world NO MORE!!! These fiends don't get the benefit of showing off the grandkids they despise because Great Grandma fell off the roof. They no longer get to invade our home when it suits them (and ONLY when it suits them). They no longer get to chide our kids into a frenzy at Christmas only to hurt them when they leave. NO MORE! I really want to hear your comments.
Please join us.
